Any UserTesting account includes several different types of licenses.

analytics
Numerical information on the usage patterns of a website or app. Can include things like number of visitors, time on site, page flow, conversion to sale, etc. Analytics tell what people did in a site or app, but do not explain why they did it or what they thought about it. That's where UserTesting comes in.

assets
This term refers to URLs, images, and audio and video files that customers and include in their tests. Also called brand assets.

audience
This refers to the demographics breakdown set up for a specific test.

balanced comparison 
A feature used to compare two alternative designs (e.g.,two different webpages, prototypes, or even marketing emails).

benchmarking 
Running the same test at different points to check how you have progressed in the key metrics/criteria of the test. It might include competitors or track exclusively your own site, brand, or experience.

clip 
A clip is a short segment of video from a test session.

contributor
Someone who takes a UserTesting user test. Formerly called “tester” or “participant.”

contributor network
A network of potential test contributors.

customer
A business or entity with an account with UserTesting

Custom Network 
Custom Network enables companies to onboard and connect with networks of their own users, prospects, partners, and even employees within the UserTesting platform.

demographics
This catchall term describes information about someone's statistical characteristics, such as age, sex, and income:

  • basic - Age, Income, Gender, Country (US, UK, and Canada)
  • advanced - Age, Income, Gender, Country (all supported countries), web expertise, operating system, social networking, browser, Industry, job role, parental status, employment status, company size, job level, and language

draft
a version of a test that hasn’t been published yet, can be saved as a test, test plan template, or deleted.

highlight reel 
A compilation of clips from one or more studies. Highlight reels can be shared with others, to illustrate insights from studies. They can be annotated and marked as important, using Notes & Clips.

human insights
Customers get these when they use the UserTesting platform.

insight
This is the term we use to refer to something significant that you learned from a test. Oftentimes, insights are communicated through clips and highlight reels.

integrations
Integrations are services that can be connected and managed with a UserTesting account

Invite Network

We generate a link to a test and customers can invite people outside the UT Contributor Network for one-time participation. Clients may want to do this when testing something that they don’t want to get out to the public, or they may require contributors who have industry-specific knowledge or experience.

launch
A customer launches a test when they finish creating it and invite contributors to take it.

screener
This term is shorthand for a type of question designed to screen contributors to determine whether a contributor is “qualified” to take a given test or not.

session
This refers to the response of a single contributor to a UserTesting test. A session consists of the video plus the metrics of a recorded test, as well as the video of a single interview in Live Conversation. Also sometimes called a “video.”

template
A test/tasks and questions saved as a template for reuse later.

test
Formerly called a "study,” a test is a combination of a test plan and an audience selection. It includes a collection of tasks, questions, or both that contributors complete and answer.

test plan
This refers to the lists of questions and tasks to be used in a test. It can also include the demographics to be used for recruiting contributors.

test-plan templates 
These are pre-formatted UserTesting studies, which can be copied into a new test with a single click.

transcript
In the UserTesting environment, a transcript refers to a machine-generated, written version of everything said in a UserTesting session. It’s displayed in the video player in a separate tab.

UserTesting Contributor Network
A diverse network of over one million contributors world-wide. The majority are located in the US, Canada, UK, India, and Australia. English is the default language, but non-English language include French, Spanish, and German. Contributors are screened for quality and rated.

workspace
Workspaces set permissions to organize and control access to tests across projects and teams. There are three designations of workspaces: General (default), Open, and Private. And four levels of permissions, each with different capabilities: Workspace Creator, Workspace Owner, All Permissions, and Collaboration Only.
